5 Signs That You Need New Glasses
It Might Be Time to Move On
So you’ve got these glasses that you’ve had forever. You don’t love them, but you don’t hate them either. You can see alright, but maybe it seems like that myopia might be slowly creeping back into your field of vision. They’re in pretty good shape, but there’s one or two blotches on them that just don’t seem to buff despite your best efforts.
In short, you’re in a strange limbo where you feel like it might be time for a new pair, but you’re just not sure. Luckily we’re here to make it a little easier for you. Here are our top five signs that you need new glasses.

1. Your eyes hurt
Do you get a headache when you read? Do things look blurry at a distance from which you used to see just fine? Does watching TV give you a headache? If you answered yes to any of these questions, chances are that you need to update your prescription for your glasses.
As you age, usually in your 40’s, the lenses inside your eyeballs will become more rigid (even if you already have weak vision). As such, symptoms of eye strain and fatigue become more pronounced and uncomfortable. If you’re having any pain, your body is pretty clearly telling you that your current prescription glasses aren’t going to cut it any more and it’s time for a new set of specs.

2. You’ve picked up an active hobby
This might not necessarily mean that your current glasses should get pitched, but if you’ve recently picked up a new athletic hobby, such as basketball, tennis, mountain biking, or distance running, it’s going to be in your best interest to purchase some new glasses.
Sports glasses made with polycarbonate lenses with a secure strap are going to be your best friend out on the court or on the trails. They will fit your face securely and ensure that you’re able to see what you’re doing without running the risk of breaking or cracking when you inevitably get jostled.

3. You’re due for a new prescription
It’s interesting that the human brain is able to account for a lot of vision distortions all on its own, but the fact of the matter is that when it comes to glasses, eventually their ticket will come up and it’ll be time to update your prescription.
If you’re between the ages of 18 and 60, you’re probably going to need to
update your glasses every couple of years. It’s important to get annual eye exams during this time as your eye doctor will be able to provide insight into the health of your vision. If you have certain chronic diseases such as diabetes, these checkups and prescription changes might need to be more frequent.

4. You’ve scratched your lenses
Isn’t that just the worst when that happens? You’re minding your own business when a stranger accidentally bumps into you and sends your glasses flying. While you might be tempted to just rough it with your scratched lenses, you really should have them replaced as soon as possible.
Scratched lenses can cause a host of issues such as vision distortions, incorrect focusing, and glare from lights which makes driving at night particularly perilous.
If your glasses are scratched, it’s a clear indication that you need them replaced.

5. You hate your glasses
Life is too short for wearing a pair of glasses that you’re embarrassed to be seen in. It’s your face, your vision, and your glasses, so you might as well wear a pair that looks great on you.
